Resin art epoxy colors

There are epoxy pigments available in all kinds of special versions. For example, you can also choose exciting metallic colors or, for example, beautiful glow in the dark pigments. With this you give your DIY project a unique look. And have you heard of chameleon pigment powder? This is a unique pigment, because the color adapts when light hits it or you move your artwork.

Dyes vs. Pigment: Which is Which?

Dyes and pigments are different materials that you can use to add color to your epoxy. We would of course like to tell you more about these two types of materials.

Coloring epoxy with dyes

Colorants are ideal if you want to add color to your epoxy casting resin. In general, you don't need to add many colorants to the epoxy. Of course, it depends entirely on your own wishes how many colorants you add. Do you want a full opaque color? Add a little pigment to the mixture and check whether you achieve the desired effect. If this is not the case, add a little more pigment.

Unlike pigment powder, dyes are liquid. Liquid dyes mix completely with the resin, which can affect the viscosity of the epoxy. Never add too much dye or pigment, otherwise there is a chance that the epoxy will not (fully) harden.

Epoxy pigment colors

Do you want to give your artwork a unique look? Then you can also choose epoxy pigment. With epoxy pigment you can add the most beautiful colors to your project. Pigment colors can be sold in both paste form and powder form. In both cases they consist of small pigment particles.

When using pigment powder or paste, the viscosity of the resin can be affected. It is important to take this into account when mixing. Therefore, never use too much pigment. The packaging of the product indicates how much you may use.

Pigment for epoxy: types and colors

If you are looking for epoxy pigment, you can choose from different types and of course a wide range of colours. This way you can give your epoxy colour yourself. What are the possibilities when it comes to special colours?

  • Metallic pigments : opaque in colour with a light shimmer.
  • Opaque paste pigments: fully opaque in colour and give a full, beautiful colour such as black, white or red.
  • Transparent pigments: as the name suggests, slightly translucent and transparent in colour. Ideal if you want to imitate the colour of the sea, for example.
  • Mother-of-pearl pigments: opaque in colour with a light shimmer.
  • Chameleon pigment : just like a chameleon, this color changes when light hits it.
  • Glow-in-the-dark pigment : provide opaque color in daylight and glow in the dark.

For the different types of epoxy pigments you can choose to buy a colour separately or go for a value set with multiple colours.

Opaque epoxy pigment versus transparent pigments

If you are going to add color to your epoxy project, you can choose opaque epoxy pigment powder. This will give you an opaque effect . If you want a translucent color, you can choose transparent pigments. This will give you a slightly coloring effect .

Different shapes epoxy colors

When you want to add a color to your epoxy, you will come across it in different forms. We are happy to list for you what you can choose from.

  • Liquid Colors - These dyes mix in epoxy. Often you only need a few drops to get the effect you want.

  • Pigment powders - You can also choose colored powders such as Metallic powders , paste and chameleon pigment that you can easily and quickly mix with epoxy. These often retain their color for a long time and you only need a tiny amount.

  • Epoxy pigment paste - Pigment paste is known for its rich and opaque colors. In addition, the paste has a thick consistency, making it ideal if you want to add marbling patterns or Petri Art to your resin art.

Alcohol ink for epoxy resin

In addition to dyes and pigments, you will also find alcohol ink specifically for epoxy casting resin in our range. Alcohol ink is a fast-drying dye based on alcohol. The alcohol ink offers vibrant colours and is a versatile product for various types of epoxy resin applications.

The ink is known for its mixability, transparency and texture, making it very suitable for creating a good texture with your epoxy resin.

Mixing pigments with epoxy resin

When you want to give your epoxy resin a color with pigments, the question naturally arises: "What is the best way to add pigments to your epoxy?" We are happy to explain it.

  • Make sure the epoxy resin is at room temperature before pouring.

  • Now it's time to add the desired amount of pigments to your epoxy. Start with a small amount. You can always add more later.

  • Gently stir the color into the epoxy so that it is evenly distributed . Make sure that there are no lumps or unmixed particles left behind.

  • Test the color of the epoxy resin. You can add pigments during this step if you want to make the color more intense or darker.

How much pigment is needed?

The amount of colour pigments you need depends entirely on a number of important factors. Think of the desired colour intensity and the properties of the colour pigments.

How many grams of epoxy colors you need depends on the type of pigment. It is therefore always important to read the description of the epoxy color pigments carefully. This way you know for sure that you mix the right amount of pigments with your resin.
