How to make your own bookmark?

Bookmarks are super easy to make yourself with epoxy resin. Moreover, homemade bookmarks are very nice to give as a gift or to use yourself. After reading this DIY you will know exactly how to make bookmarks yourself.

My name is Stefanie and I am 37 years old. I have written several manuals for itsOkay. You can find me on Instagram under the name CreaStessie . Here I regularly post fun photos of my hobbies and creations. I love the holidays and everything around them. Fun crafting and making your own decorations is of course the most fun. Alone or together. Let's get started.

Materials to make a bookmark:

- Epoxy casting resin
- Silicone Mixing Cups
- Silicone mold bookmark
- Silicone mold Christmas figures or other mold
- Glitters
- UV Led Lamp
- Stir sticks (I use skewers)
* Always work with gloves and a face mask. Also protect the surface you are working on with a silicone mat, for example.

Possibly:
- Silicone mat
- Tassels (hip tassel for your bookmark)
- Baby wipes (in case of spills)
- Heat tool or lighter (to pop the bubbles in the resin)

How do you make a bookmark yourself?

Preparation

Always make sure your work area is well covered and your surface is level. If epoxy is poured and the silicone mold is tilted, the epoxy resin dries diagonally and you don't want that. To make these bookmarks use Epoxy casting resin .

Step 1: Making the figures for the epoxy

Currently it is Christmas, so I am going to incorporate mini figures of Christmas in the bookmarks. I use multiple glitters and combinations. I pour the figures in the silicone mold Christmas figures . Of course you can also pour something else in the silicone mold.
I will mainly use green, gold, red and blue glitters. I add glitters to the mixing cups and stir well. Because glitters and other decorations in epoxy resin sink to the bottom, I always use a lot of glitters. Add one or more colours of glitters. Then fill the figures in the silicone mould and let the epoxy harden according to the instructions on the packaging.

Step 2: Fill the bookmark mold with epoxy

We are going to fill the silicone mold bookmark with resin. When the epoxy has hardened, we will stick the decorations on top. You can also incorporate decorations into the bookmark. Then you can skip step 3. In this case, pour a thin layer of epoxy and let it harden. After this, add the decorations with the last layer of epoxy.
In this example we stick the decorations on top of the bookmark. Fill the silicone mold bookmark with epoxy. For the best result, make sure that the mold is filled to just over the edge (a little fuller). You will then see a bulge of resin in the silicone mold. E -poxy resin always shrinks a little during the hardening process. In this way, the epoxy resin will harden nicely and evenly.

Then carefully run a heat tool (heat gun or lighter for example) along the epoxy resin and let the air bubbles pop. Let the epoxy cure according to the instructions on the label.

Step 3: Decorate the bookmarks

This is my favorite part! Now you can glue the mini figures (or other decorations) onto your bookmark. I first lay them out next to my template to see what order I want them in. You can glue the figures onto the bookmark with superglue.

Step 4: Attach tassels and charm to bookmark

I found some nice matching tassels and charms that I will attach to the bookmarks. First I attach the charm to the tassel with a ring, in a matching color. Then I pull the loop of the tassel through the hole of the bookmark. The tassel then goes through there and then they are attached to the bookmark. See below the result.
