In this article we will explore some simple epoxy techniques that are perfect for beginners who want to explore the world of epoxy art. Combine the techniques for an even more spectacular result!
Epoxy and color
Adding color to epoxy makes creations unique, vibrant and eye-catching. To start, it is important to know how to color epoxy:
1. Alcohol Ink . With alcohol ink you can create special effects. Because the ink is in a handy bottle, you can drip ink very precisely into the epoxy. Always choose ink that is specially made for epoxy.
You can also make "Petri Art" with alcohol ink. Petri dish art is a unique form of art where alcohol ink is mixed with epoxy to create unique patterns.
There are different types of alcohol ink such as; transparent, opaque, metallic, pearl and even glow-in-the-dark. They all give a different effect and end result.
2. Pigment powder . Pigment powder has a very fine structure and mixes excellently with epoxy resin. A small amount of pigment powder already gives a very covering and glossy effect.
Epoxy techniques
Different ways you can experiment with color when working with epoxy:
-
Depth through color. Experiment with combining different colors to create unique patterns. If you want to work with different colors at the same time, it is important that you let the resin stand until it has become a little syrupy. If you do not do this, the colors will mix with each other.
- Pour the different colors of epoxy resin into the silicone mold and swirl them together with a toothpick.
- Or use a silicone pouring cup with different compartments for different colors. With this cup you can easily pour the most beautiful creations using epoxy molds . - Transparency and opacity. Play with the degree of transparency in your epoxy artwork. For example, add more dye for an opaque, intense color. Or reduce the amount of dye for a more translucent effect, so that some parts will stand out more than others.
Adding decorations to epoxy
A commonly used technique when working with epoxy casting resin is incorporating various materials and decorations into your epoxy creations.
By artfully incorporating different materials into your epoxy, you can add texture and depth to your project, even as a beginner!
- Natural elements. Dried flowers , leaves, small twigs or even seeds are all examples that can be processed into resin art. Make sure that these materials are completely dry before pouring them into the epoxy resin. This will prevent mold and other unwanted reactions.
- Glitter and glamour. Add a touch of sparkle to your artwork by using chameleon flakes . Choose fine glitter for a subtle shimmer, or coarser glitter for a more pronounced effect. Experiment with different color and glitter combinations. For example, think of homemade earrings in your favorite color. An outfit including jewelry that is the same color from head to toe is really an eye-catcher.
- Personal memories. Epoxy is great for casting personal mementos such as photographs, letters, or other sentimental items. Make sure to laminate any photographs or letters before casting them in epoxy. See "Casting a Photo in Epoxy" for more information.
- Use an Epoxy sticker printer to easily add personal text or names to your resin art.
