DIY: Make a heart with a photo on a stand

What could be more fun than surprising a loved one with a homemade creation? Make this fun standing heart for your loved one or make a special memory heart for a loved one.
In this manual, Desiree will take you step by step through how to make an epoxy heart on a stand with a photo yourself.

My name is Desiree Seijnaeve. I have been hobbying with epoxy casting resin for half a year now. It started with letter keychains and epoxy jewelry. I like it so much that I keep making more and bigger projects. The possibilities with epoxy are endless. For all epoxy materials I recommend epoxy shop itsOkay. itsOkay sells high-quality silicone molds, epoxy resin, decorations and more. They actually have everything you need. And not unimportant: your order will be delivered super fast.

Step-by-step plan to make a heart with a photo on a stand

At the time of writing, it is almost Valentine's Day: the day of love. This is of course the moment to make something beautiful for a loved one or loved one. After reading this DIY, you will know exactly how to make a photo heart on a stand yourself.

Supplies

- Silicone mold heart photo frame
- Epoxy casting resin 1:1 (380 ml)
- UV blocker if you pour transparently (without color)
- Color pigment as desired
- A photo (always laminate this)
- Possibly a few dried flowers , glitter, gemstones
- Mixing cup , scale, stirring sticks, gloves, tweezers, heat tool
- Apron to protect your clothes or wear old clothes

Step 1: Preparation

Think carefully in advance about how you want the final project to look and what you need for it. Order what you don't have at home yet and make sure your workplace is tidy and clean. You do need to laminate the photo that you are going to cast in advance. By laminating the photo, you protect the photo against the chemical reaction of epoxy.

Step 2: The first layer of epoxy

The silicone mold photo heart contains approximately 300 grams of epoxy casting resin. I am going to pour the mold in 3 layers of 100 ml each. For the first layer I need 100 ml of Epoxy casting resin 1:1 . I use the 1:1 epoxy casting resin from itsOkay. You mix this, as the name suggests, 1 on 1.
Because I pour the photo heart transparently (without color pigment) I add a little bit UV blocker to the mixture. This is so that the epoxy does not yellow over time and my artwork remains nice and clear. Stir the epoxy resin mixture with the UV blocker for at least 3-5 minutes.
Then pour this into the silicone mold. The mold should now be about 1/3 full. Remove any air bubbles with a heat tool or the Bubble blaster. The 1:1 epoxy hardens within 12-24 hours. Let this first thin layer dry for at least 12 hours before going to step 3.

Step 3: The second layer of epoxy

The first layer (the bottom) is sufficiently hardened after 12 hours. Now comes the fun creative part and you can go wild with the photo, dried flowers, stickers etc. I use for this next layer again 100 ml Epoxy casting resin 1:1 .
I gave the photo a nice golden edge with a Posca Paint marker . This is a high-quality epoxy acrylic marker on a water basis. Place the photo upside down in the right place in the silicone mold. Add decorations such as dried flowers, glitter, etc. Let this layer harden again for 12-24 hours.

Step 4: The third layer of epoxy

Now pour the last layer of epoxy to the edge of the silicone mold. This last layer will form the back. You can add glitter or color pigment to this if you want.

In the transparent heart I added glitter in the last layer. In the other example, the red heart, I added mother of pearl red pigment. You can choose what you like best. The standard (the bottom of the silicone mold) I cast transparent or black in these two examples.

Step 5: Remove the photo frame from the mold

After 24 hours the photo heart is completely hardened. This moment is always super exciting. If you did it right, you put the photos in the mold upside down, so now you will really see the end result.
If there are sharp edges on your epoxy artwork, you can remove them with scissors, a deburrer or light sanding.

Surprise your loved one!

Now that this personal gift is finished, you can surprise your loved one. This gift will definitely be appreciated. Hopefully I have given you some nice ideas. Have fun making the photo heart. Love Desiree.
