How do you cast objects in epoxy?

Casting objects is mostly done in a silicone mold , because epoxy resin does not adhere to it. Depending on the desired result and purpose, you can choose from different types of epoxy casting resin .

For smaller projects, our UltraEpoxy Premium Art is ideal. This is a high-quality resin with extreme clarity and high UV resistance. If you are going for larger castings of more than 2.5 cm thick, you can better use a special casting resin for larger projects such as the UltraEpoxy Large Castings .

We also have over 200 different types of pigment colours . Our epoxy resins are excellent for mixing with opaque pigments, metallic powders and transparent dyes.

Step-by-step plan for epoxy casting

  1. Gathering Materials: Gather the materials you want to pour. Paper or photos absorb moisture. You will need to laminate these before pouring.

  2. Choose the right mold: Make sure you use the right mold. We recommend silicone molds, because epoxy will not stick to them.

  3. Start pouring: Always use the right protection when working with epoxy. We recommend wearing nitrile gloves. Also make sure you have a surface that cannot get dirty (for example a garbage bag). Mix the resin and hardener as indicated on the product packaging. Then let the mixture rest for a few minutes, so that any air bubbles can burst.

  4. Pouring the object: Pour the first layer of epoxy into the mold to the desired height of your object. Once this layer has hardened, place the object on this layer so that it remains at exactly the right height. After a few hours you can continue with the next layer.

  5. Apply second layer: Mix epoxy again and make sure you have enough for this next layer. Pour carefully over the object. You can still move the object a little in the first few minutes.

After 24-48 hours the epoxy will be fully cured and you can remove the silicone mold. Your project is now done!

How to cast things in epoxy?

Start by pouring a first layer of epoxy casting resin to the desired level where you want to place the object or product. Let this layer harden for 12-24 hours. After this, pour a second layer of epoxy to completely enclose the object. By adding multiple layers of epoxy, you can process different objects at different heights and embed them in the epoxy.
