Een pot met deksel maken, zo doe je dat! - itsOkay

How to make a pot with a lid!

In this manual you will learn how to easily make your own storage jar with lid. You can make this with epoxy resin or plaster.

epoxy resin pot and lid

My name is Karin and I started working with epoxy resin at the end of 2023.
You can make very useful utensils with epoxy resin. Also a nice storage jar with a classic look. In this manual you can read how to make this nice jar yourself. You can read all about that on my blog karinkay.nl.

What do you need?

Step 1: Preparation

If you work with epoxy resin instead of plaster, you can add a nice color. In this example we are working with epoxy resin, but you can also fill the mold with plaster.
Do you want to add color? Then you can, for example, choose opaque pigments for epoxy resin from itsOkay , so that the jar is no longer transparent, or transparent ones so that you can see through it a little.
You can work with multiple layers, but you can also opt for a chic solid color. I always find it useful to make a small drawing in advance, so that I can get an idea of the result.

Step 2: Mixing epoxy resin

For this mold I use the Epoxy Resin - 1:1 Casting Resin. You will need quite a bit of epoxy resin for the jar and lid, almost an entire package (so a total of 500 ml of mixed epoxy resin). The lid is solid so requires a lot of epoxy resin.
After I mix the epoxy resin, I stir it well and let it rest for a while so that the bubbles disappear. I then pour it into smaller cups, add the pigments and stir well.
You can also add small decorations, such as glitter. Please note, however, that slightly heavier glitter will sink down and into the top edge of the jar.

Step 3: Pouring epoxy resin into the mold

Pour the epoxy resin into the mold of the lid and the jar. If you have mixed several color pigments, do this in stages. The molds are upside down so when you take the jar out you will see that the bottom is on top and vice versa. If you want the bottom to be a certain color, pour it last.

Casting the lid is very simple. The opening for the jar is a little narrower and you can carefully push the mold open a little. Make sure you place the pot on a straight surface so that the pot becomes straight. If air bubbles have formed, you can break them with a lighter or heat tool.

Step 4: Curing

The most tedious part of this DIY is waiting for the resin to harden. This epoxy resin requires approximately 24 hours. Because the lid is so thick, I usually wait a little longer just to be sure.

Step 5: Remove the pot from the mold

Pull the jar out of the mold. Because the pot is quite large, it is a bit of a challenge. And tada, you have a unique, homemade jar! You can store everything in it, but it also looks great as a decoration!

I hope you found this guide useful. I wish everyone lots of crafting fun.

Love, Karin
