Step-by-step plan for making Christmas decorations from epoxy

Preparation

Protect your work surface with a silicone mat in case you spill epoxy resin . Put on old clothes and a long-sleeved shirt. Put on the mask or face shield and start weighing the epoxy resin .

Step 1: Mixing the epoxy

To make these three Christmas hangers you need about 40 to 50 grams of epoxy resin per hanger. You make these hangers in two times, why… you will read that later.

We use the clear simple 1:1 mix UltraEpoxy from itsOkay. You can also use the Premium Art UltraEpoxy , this is cheaper but a bit more difficult in mixing ratio. Mix 65 grams of epoxy resin (a) and 65 grams of epoxy hardener (b), that makes a total of 130 grams. Stir this gently and well for at least 3 minutes.

Step 2: Add Pigment Color

Let the mixed epoxy resin rest for a few minutes , so that any air bubbles can rise to the top. Pop air bubbles with a heat tool or Bubble Blaster . Now add 10 to a maximum of 30 drops of epoxy pigment . I choose the colors black/silver. Slowly stir the colors through the epoxy resin until the color is even.

Step 3: Pouring the epoxy into the mold

Fill all three epoxy molds with the colored epoxy . I always fill the molds to just over the edge: you will then see a bulge appear. This is how the pendant comes out of the mold the best. Epoxy always shrinks a little during the curing process.

Step 4: Curing

Let the epoxy harden for 12-24 hours. After 24 hours you can remove your creation from the mold.

Step 5: Pouring the final layer

After removing the mold, you can still cast your creation with a different color epoxy. I prepare 20 grams of epoxy for this and add silver pigment and glitter to it. So I mix 10 grams of epoxy resin (a) and 10 grams of epoxy hardener (b). Carefully fill your pendants and let this harden for 24 hours.

After another 24 hours of waiting, the hangers are ready. You can hang them nicely in the Christmas tree or in front of the window.
