Make do-it-yourself bookmarks

Bookmarks are easy to make with epoxy resin and very nice as a gift or to use yourself. In this manual, Stefanie will explain to you step by step how to make bookmarks.

My name is Stefanie and I am 37 years old. I have already written several manuals for itsOkay. I can be found on Instagram under the name CreaStessie . Here I regularly post fun photos of my hobbies and creations. I love the holidays and everything about them very much. Fun crafts and making your own decorations are of course the most fun. Alone or cozy together! Let's start..

Supplies needed to make a bookmark:
- UV Resin
- Silicone Mixing Cups (or disposable cups)
- Silicone mold bookmark
- Work gloves
- Silicone mold figures or another mold.
- Glitter
- UV LED Lamp
- Stirring sticks (I use skewers)
* Always work with gloves and a face mask. Also protect the surface you work on well.

Possibly:
- Silicone mat
- Tassels (hip brush for your bookmark)
- Baby wipes (in case you make a spill)
- Heat hair dryer or lighter (to pop the bubbles in the resin)

Preparation

Always make sure that your workplace is well covered and that the table or surface is level. If the silicone mold is at an angle and you have already poured, the epoxy resin dries diagonally: you don't want that.
For these bookmarks I will use the UV Epoxy resin . This epoxy resin is ready-made and therefore easy to use.
You can make these bookmarks better with the 1:1 epoxy resin , which is much cheaper. The process is then a little more extensive and the hardening takes a little longer: a blog about this has previously been published by Petra also on the ItsOkay website.

Make a bookmark

Step 1: Making the figures for the resin (or use decorations)
It's Christmas at the moment, so I'm putting mini figures in the Christmas bookmarks and using multiple glitters and combinations. I make the figures with the silicone mold mini figures and UV epoxy resin. You can of course also pour something else into the mold. I'm going to use mainly green, gold, red and blue glitter. I put the glitter in the mixing bowls and stir them well with some UV epoxy resin. Because this resin is ready-made, you can pour directly from the bottle into your container of glitter. Because glitter and other decorations sink to the bottom in epoxy resin, I always use a lot of glitter. Add one or more colors of glitter. Then I fill the figures into the molds and put them under the UV lamp for 1 minute. I turn the mold over and let it harden again for 1 minute under the UV lamp. Once the time is up you can remove the figures from the molds.

Step 2: Fill the bookmark mold with epoxy resin

We are now going to fill the mold with the resin. When this is hard, we will later add the decorations on top of the bookmark. You can also incorporate your decorations into the bookmark. Then you can skip step 3 later. In this case you make a thin layer of resin, let it harden and then add the decorations with the last covering layer of resin.
In this example we will stick the decorations on top of the bookmark. First fill the bookmark mold with the resin. For the best result, make sure that the mold is filled just over the edge (slightly fuller). You will then see a bulge of resin forming in the mold. The Epoxy resin always shrinks slightly during the curing process. In this way the epoxy resin hardens nice and flat. If you don't do this, sharp edges may appear when it has hardened.
Then carefully run a heat tool (heat hair dryer or lighter, for example) along the epoxy resin and pop the bubbles. Finally, place the bookmarks twice under the UV lamp. After 2 minutes your bookmark is hard and we can start with the next step.

Step 3: Decorate the bookmarks.

This is my favorite part! Now you can stick the mini figures (or other decorations) to your bookmark. I first place them next to my mold to see what order I want them in. Then I put a drop of UV epoxy resin on those spots and place a mini figure on top. I also put a few drops of epoxy resin on top of which I put some gold/silver foil . As soon as everything is in the right place, I put it under the UV lamp again. Now your figures are attached and your bookmark is almost ready. I also add some glitter mixed with UV epoxy resin here and there for an extra glittering effect.

Step 4: Attaching the tassels and charms

I found some beautiful matching tassels and charms that I am now going to attach to the bookmarks. First I attach the charm to the tassel with a ring in a matching color. Then I pull the loop of the brush through the hole in the bookmark. The brush then goes through that again and then they are attached to the bookmark. See the result below.

I wish you lots of crafting fun and feel free to take a look at my Instagram page Creastessie for more epoxy resin creations.
