Epoxy boekenleggers maken - itsOkay

Making epoxy bookmarks

Making a bookmark is not difficult at all and also super creative to do. You can quickly cast personal bookmarks with epoxy resin. Not only handy, but also super fun! Cast unique decorations, add a name or add the nicest photos. Everything is possible! We explain how to make this in this manual.

My name is Britt Hendrix. I recently discovered a new passion, making keychains, bookmarks and chains with epoxy resin.

In what follows I will explain how to make 2 types of bookmarks (with glitter and with flowers). An ideal activity to do together with your children, family or relatives!

Materials to make a bookmark:
- Epoxy 1:1 casting resin . This is resin for large surfaces. You can also use the ready-made resin, but that is very expensive for large surfaces.
- Silicone mold bookmark
- Gloves
- Decorations such as dried flowers
-
Silicone mixing cups , stirring sticks, always work with gloves and a face mask

Possibly:
- Silicone mat (optional, but definitely recommended to leave everything clean)
- Tassels (hip tassel for your bookmark)
- Cocktail sticks, heat gun or lighter.

Make a bookmark with glitter

Step 1: Prepare materials
Put on your work gloves and get all your materials ready.

Step 2: Mixing Resin
We use the Epoxy Casting Resin 1:1 . This resin is suitable for larger surfaces. itsOkay also has the ready-made jewelry resin, but this is not suitable (and expensive) for larger surfaces.

You do not need to heat this epoxy in a bain marie. The mixing ratio of this epoxy resin is 1:1. This means that you need exactly the same amount of grams of resin as of hardener. Fill one mixing cup with the resin and the other with the same amount of hardener. Stir the epoxy resin for a few minutes to give the air bubbles time to disappear. After this, the resin and hardener can be combined. Again, you can stir gently for a few minutes to remove the bubbles. A tip I can give you is to make sure that the resin and hardener are not too cold. This will give you a better result.

Step 3: Fill mold with thin layer
After the epoxy resin is mixed the mold can be filled. I always start with a thin layer so that I can place the decorations easier afterwards.

Step 4: Add decorations
Apply a thin layer of epoxy resin. After this, it is time to apply the decorations. Since it is almost Christmas, I have chosen some nice glitter stars in combination with some gold leaf. I use a cocktail stick to pick up the decorations and place them in the epoxy resin. This way, you will come into contact with the epoxy resin as little as possible. For optimal protection, work with gloves.

Step 5: Add a layer of epoxy resin
To make sure all the decorations are covered in epoxy resin, I now fill the mold all the way to the edge.

Step 6: Using a lighter
To make the last bubbles disappear, I use a lighter. CAUTION: go very carefully along the resin and do not touch the mold. Prevent fire and make sure the molds do not melt.

Step 7: Drying
This epoxy resin needs 1-4 hours to dry. After 24 hours it is fully cured. Be patient and give the epoxy resin time to harden sufficiently before removing it from the mold!

Step 8: Attach the tassel to the bookmark
Drill a hole in the top of the hanger using a drill or a hand drill from itsOkay.

Step 4: Add decorations
After the mold is filled with a thin layer, it is time to apply the decorations. I am in love with the dried flowers that are available at itsokay.nl. I combine these with gold leaf. I use a cocktail stick to pick up the decorations and place them in the epoxy resin . This way you come into contact with the epoxy resin as little as possible.

Step 5: Add a layer of epoxy resin
To make sure all the decorations are covered in epoxy resin , I now fill the mold all the way to the edge.

Step 6: Using a lighter
To make the last bubbles disappear, I use a heat tool. I use a lighter for this. CAUTION: prevent fire and make sure the molds do not melt.

Step 7: Let it dry
This epoxy resin needs 1-4 hours to dry. After 24 hours it is fully cured. Be patient and give the epoxy resin time to harden sufficiently before removing it from the mold!

I want to wish you all much success and fun with making the bookmarks. I can guarantee that it is an ideal relaxing activity to do with your children, family or relatives. Greetings Britt.
