Making epoxy bookmarks

Making a bookmark is no longer difficult at all and is also super creative to do. You can quickly and personally cast bookmarks with epoxy resin. Not only handy, but also super fun! Add unique decorations, add a name or add the cutest photos. Everything is possible! We explain how to do this in this manual.

My name is Britt Hendrix. I recently discovered a new passion, namely making key rings, bookmarks and necklaces with epoxy resin.

In what follows I will explain how you can make 2 types of bookmarks (with glitter and with flowers). An ideal activity to do together with your children, family or relatives!

Supplies needed to make a bookmark:
- Epoxy 1:1 casting resin . This is resin for large surfaces. You can also use ready-made resin, but that is very expensive for large surfaces.
- Silicone mold bookmark
- Gloves
- Decorations such as dried flowers
- Silicone mixing cups , stirring sticks, always work with gloves and a face mask

Possibly:
- Silicone mat (optional, but definitely recommended to leave everything clean)
- Tassels (hip brush for your bookmark)
- Cocktail sticks, heat gun or lighter.

Make a bookmark with glitter

Step 1: prepare materials
Put on your work gloves and prepare all the materials.

Step 2: Mixing resin
We use the Epoxy Casting Resin 1:1 . This resin is suitable for larger surfaces. itsOkay also has ready-made jewelry resin, but this is not suitable (and expensive) for larger surfaces.

You do not need to heat this epoxy in a bain marie. The mixing ratio of this epoxy resin is 1:1. This means that you need exactly the same number of grams of resin and hardener. Fill one mixing cup with the resin and the other with an equal amount of hardener. Stir the epoxy resin for a few minutes to give the air bubbles time to dissipate. After this, the resin and hardener can be combined. Once again, you can stir gently for a few minutes to release the bubbles. One tip I can give is to ensure that the resin and hardener are not too cold. This way you get a better result.

Step 3: fill mold with a thin layer
After the epoxy resin has been mixed, the mold can be filled. I always start with a thin layer so that it is easier to place the decorations afterwards.

Step 4: Add decorations
Apply a thin layer of epoxy resin. After this it is time to apply the decorations. Because it's almost Christmas, I opted for some nice glitter stars in combination with some gold leaf. I use a cocktail stick to pick up the decorations and place them in the epoxy resin. This way you come into contact with the epoxy resin as little as possible. For optimal protection, wear gloves.

Step 5: pour a layer of epoxy resin
To ensure that all decorations are covered with epoxy resin, I now fill the mold further up to the edge.

Step 6: Use a lighter
To make the last bubbles disappear, I use a lighter. NOTE: Go very carefully along the resin and do not touch the mold. Prevent fire and ensure that the molds do not melt.

Step 7: drying

This epoxy resin takes 1-4 hours to dry. After 24 hours it is completely hardened. Be patient and give the epoxy resin time to harden sufficiently before removing it from the mold!

Step 8: hang the tassel on the bookmark
Drill a hole in the top of the hanger with a drill or a hand drill from itsOkay.

Step 2: Mixing resin
We use the Epoxy Casting Resin 1:1 . This epoxy resin is suitable for larger surfaces. itsOkay also has ready-made jewelry resin, but this is not suitable for larger surfaces.

Step 4: Add decorations
After the mold has been filled with a thin layer, it is time to apply the decorations. I am in love with the dried flowers that are available at itsokay.nl. I combine this again with gold leaf. I use a cocktail stick to pick up the decorations and place them in the epoxy resin . This way you come into contact with the epoxy resin as little as possible.

Step 5: pour a layer of epoxy resin
To ensure that all decorations are covered with epoxy resin , I now fill the mold further up to the edge.

Step 6: Use a lighter
To make the last bubbles disappear, I use a heat tool. I use a lighter for this. NOTE: prevent fire and ensure that the molds do not melt.

Step 7: Let dry
This epoxy resin takes 1-4 hours to dry. After 24 hours it is completely hardened. Be patient and give the epoxy resin time to harden sufficiently before removing it from the mold!

I would like to wish you all good luck and fun making the bookmarks. I can guarantee that it is an ideal relaxing activity to do with your children, family or relatives. Greetings Britt.
