Make keychains with names

Making your own name keyrings is easier than you might think. Super fun as a personal gift, treat, gift or for yourself. You make them entirely to your taste with epoxy and your favorite decorations.

Some time ago I saw an advertisement about making letter key rings. Once I ordered, I started working on it and I am now making very beautiful letters. These letter keychains are totally hot on social media! And how fun is it to make this yourself ? I sell these key rings myself through my webshop and Instagram DoorPetra and I have been asked to teach you how to do it too.

Let me first introduce myself. My name is Petra Laan, 34 years old and has always been creative. I can be found on Instagram and Facebook as DoorPetra . Here I regularly post nice creations of cards, baby gifts, epoxy jewelry and key rings.
Earlier I wrote this manual: Making DIY Resin Keychains about the basic techniques of making keychains (no name).

Supplies:

As an example, I'm going to make three types of keychains:

  1. with name made from alphabet beads
  2. with name made of small glitter letters
  3. with a name cut with a plotter machine (I made the name with my Silhoutte Cameo 4)

1. Keychain with name from alphabet beads

What do you need for this letter:

Step 1: Making the base
Fill the letter approximately one-third full with epoxy or jewelry resin. I am making the letter L. I have chosen to do this with the 2 component epoxy. I made the epoxy blue with the opaque pigments . After the base, let it dry for about 24 hours.

Step 2: Add the name
Choose a name of your choice, I chose the name Levy in the letter beads. To ensure that the letters do not float, I secured them with the jewelry resin. I then pour the letter just above the edge (so that a bulge is created) with the 2-component epoxy. After this, let it harden for 24 to 48 hours and then turn it into a key ring.

Step 3: Making the Keychain
The Keychain Starter Package also includes a hand drill with 10 small drills, screws and key rings. With the drill you can drill a hole in the key ring. You put a screw in here and you put a key ring on this. When drilling, make sure your hole is deep enough for half the screw. Screw the screw all the way into the resin so that it is firmly secured. For extra grip I use pliers.
Now that you have mounted the key ring, it is ready. You can cut away rough edges with pliers or scissors or file with a nail file.

3. Keychain with name made of glitter letters

What do you need for this letter:

Step 1: Making the base

Fill the letter completely with epoxy or jewelry resin, leaving just an edge underneath. I am making the letter F. I have chosen to do this with the 2 component epoxy. I add small dried flowers and glitter to this letter. After the base, let it dry for about 24 hours.

Step 2: Add the name
Choose a name of your choice, I chose the name Fleur in glitter letters. To ensure that the letters stay in place, I attach them with the jewelry resin. I stick the letters in place one by one using a cocktail stick. I also make sure they are in a nice straight line. I let the jewelry resin dry with the UV lamp.

3. Keychain with name cut with plotter machine

What do you need for this letter:

If you have a plotting machine from Silhoutte, Cricut or Siser, you can cut a sticker from vinyl to use in a key ring. Or maybe you know someone with a plotter who would like to make this for you. The purchase of a plotter is a one-off and they can be purchased new from €175.00.

Step 1: Make a vinyl sticker
I will create a name design for your plotter in the design studio in a font of your choice. The stickers I make have a maximum height of 8 mm and a length of 35 mm. This way I can be sure that it fits nicely in my letter.

Step 2: Making the base
Fill the letter completely with epoxy or jewelry resin, leaving just an edge underneath. I am making the letter M. I have chosen to do this with the 2 component epoxy. I made the epoxy black with the pigment paste "supreme black" . After the base, let it dry for about 24 hours.

Step 3: Add the name
In step 1 I cut out the name Mario in white vinyl stickers. You stick this to the letter using transfer tape or regular adhesive tape. I then pour the letter just above the edge (so that a bulge is created) with the 2-component epoxy. After this, let it harden for 24 to 48 hours and then turn it into a key ring.

Gr Karin
