Model builders choose itsOkay epoxy because of its high quality. Our resin is extremely suitable for creating model building projects and other small objects.
The itsOkay epoxy has a simple mixing ratio of 100:60 and dries transparent. When combined with fillers, it is ideal for both bonding and filling.
For smaller or quick projects our small packs of UV Resin are particularly handy. UV resin hardens within minutes by means of UV light.
Epoxy or polyester for miniature building?
Epoxy is a plastic that is liquid during processing. After 24-48 hours, epoxy is fully cured and the product is strong, weather and water resistant. Epoxy is used for making art, coatings, boat repairs, but also as a basis for glues, resins, paints and miniature construction.
Epoxy is comparable to polyester, but is much stronger. You can make all sorts of things with epoxy. From fiberglass hulls for miniature boats, water effects, figures or objects. Think of it and you can make it. Epoxy is also waterproof in contrast to polyester. Epoxy also provides better adhesion and has virtually no shrinkage.
Using Epoxy to Fill
Epoxy consists of two components that must be mixed together. After pouring, the epoxy hardens within 24-48 hours to a rock-hard substance. Epoxy has a filling property with a lot of strength. You can make epoxy even stronger by combining it with materials such as fibers.
To make the epoxy more filling and to prevent it from flowing away from the application point, you can use aerosil. This can be ordered from specialist shops. This product ensures that the epoxy becomes thicker. You can also let epoxy stand for a while after mixing, then you will automatically see that it becomes more viscous.
To fill gaps and create a strong bond, it is recommended to add cotton fibers to epoxy.
Epoxy for model building and miniatures
Sandra de Vries: "I used the UltraEpoxy Premium Art to make a dining table. Based on a dollhouse scale 1:12. The table is coated with two layers of lacquered wood. It has become a beautiful epoxy river table with epoxy bottom and clear epoxy dome on top".
Table dimensions: length 119mm, width 69mm, height 68mm.
UV Resin for model building and miniatures
Yoni Laan: "I use the resin to secure my trees. Great stuff! Everything stays in place once hardened and it gives a beautiful water effect. Regular customer here :)".
Hilda Kweldam-Kas: "This resin also works very well for making your own dollhouse miniatures, such as this tableware."
Dees v. Buren: "Good product. Does what it should do and certainly for smaller projects a nice challenge. Nice material to work with. Dries quickly under a good UV Resin LED lamp". Dees made the model artwork below.
Model building water making
You can make very realistic "water" with epoxy for your surface or project. You can pour epoxy transparent or create beautiful colors by using pigments for epoxy. Gerrit (Modelbouw Freak Wolvega) is happy to explain how this works. Gerrit made the following project with our UltraEpoxy Premium Art.
Gerrit: "I used the 2-component UltraEpoxy Premium Art for this project. The Royal Navy plane had to make an emergency landing at the Wassenaarseslag due to a defect. This is near the base of the Naval Air Station Valkenburg. This former airfield is now a museum and I made a model for it. Exactly as the plane had remained floating in the sea.
I first made the airplane model and adjusted it to the damage. After that I made a box from a 50 x 50 cm plate. I filled this, a few centimeters deep, with the UltraEpoxy.
When the epoxy was almost hardened I applied waves with a spatula. With a small bottle of ready-made epoxy ( UV resin ) I applied the last wave. At the moment the model is in a display case in the museum in Valkenburg.
With this technique I also made a seaplane with running engines and lighting, which I worked on as a technician myself." You can also follow Gerrit on YouTube .
