In the end I have already made a lot like epoxy coasters, jewelry, key chains and much more. I really like to craft and make unique creations. I would like to explain to you step by step how to make beautiful coasters with napkins. You only need a few things and it is super simple.
Processing napkins in epoxy
Give your interior a personal touch and incorporate napkins with beautiful patterns in your coasters. It is easy to do yourself and it is a way to be creative. We explain step by step how you can get started with this DIY.
Step 1: Prepare the napkins
First cut the napkins into circles (or the shape you want). Then remove 1-2 layers from the back, so that the layer with the picture is as thin as possible. You do not need to process the napkins any further.
Step 2: Mixing the epoxy resin
Now I'm going to mix the epoxy resin. I use the premium quality
UltraEpoxy from ItsOkay, because it is nice and clear without air bubbles. I use the handy diagram that comes with the bottles and weigh this accurately on my
precision scale . After this, stir well for 4-5 minutes. Also scrape along the edges and the bottom. If you don't do this properly, there is a chance that your epoxy resin will not harden properly. After stirring, I let the epoxy resin sit for 3-4 minutes so that the air bubbles can come to the surface. I then remove them with my heat tool. Always be careful with this, you don't want to burn your work or your mold. ItsOkay now also sells a great
Bubble Blaster that easily pops air bubbles in epoxy. This prevents damage to your mold or artwork.
Step 3: Pouring the epoxy
Pour a very thin layer of epoxy resin into the round molds. Make sure the layer of epoxy resin is well spread and distributed over the entire silicone mold.
Then place the napkins upside down in the silicone mold and press the napkins down well with a stirring rod, so that they stay on the bottom. Carefully go over the napkin with a wooden stirring spatula or your finger, so that any air bubbles at the bottom disappear. Let this layer of epoxy harden until the next day (24 hours).
Step 4: Pour second layer of epoxy
After 24 hours you can apply the next layer in the pigment color you want. Do not choose
dark pigment colors, because then the napkin will not stand out. The background color will be too dark. I prefer to work with
white mother of pearl pigment . You can optionally add glitter to the edge of the silicone mold, as you can see in the pictures.
Now fill the silicone molds with the colored
epoxy . I remove any air bubbles with my
heat tool . Let the
epoxy harden for 24 hours .
Step 5: Remove the coasters from the mold
After at least 24 hours you can remove the epoxy coasters from the silicone mold. You can now see the pattern or image of the napkin in it very nicely. I think it gives a very cozy effect.
I hope you found this manual instructive to read and will now get started yourself. I hope you have lots of fun crafting. Love José.
