In this manual you will learn how to easily make your own container with lid. You can make this with epoxy casting resin or plaster.
My name is Karin and I started working with epoxy resin at the end of 2023. With epoxy resin you can make very handy utensils. Like a nice storage jar with a classic look. In this manual you can read how to make this nice jar yourself. On my blog karinkay.nl you can read all about it.

A well-ventilated work space
Step 1: Preparation
If you are going to work with epoxy casting resin instead of plaster, you can add a nice color to it. In this example we are working with epoxy resin, but you can also fill the mold with plaster. Want to add color? Then you can choose opaque pigments for epoxy resin from itsOkay , so that the container or jar is no longer transparent, or transparent ones so that you can see through it a little. You can work with multiple layers, but also go for a chic solid color. I always find it useful to make a small drawing beforehand, so that I get a bit of an idea of the result.
Step 2: Mixing Epoxy Resin
For this mold I use the Epoxy Resin - 1:1 Casting Resin. You need quite a bit of epoxy resin for the jar and the lid, almost a whole package (so in total 500 ml mixed epoxy resin). The lid is solid so it costs quite a lot of epoxy resin. After mixing the epoxy resin I stir it well and let it sit for a while so that the bubbles disappear. Then I pour it into smaller cups, add the pigments and stir them well. You can also add small decorations, such as glitter. Be aware that slightly heavier glitter will sink to the bottom and into the top of the jar.
Step 3: Pouring epoxy resin into the mold
Pour the epoxy resin into the mold of the lid and the jar. If you have mixed multiple color pigments, do this in stages. The molds are upside down so when you take the jar out you will see that the bottom is on top and vice versa. If you want the bottom to have a certain color, pour it last.
For the lid, pouring is very easy. For the jar, the opening is a bit narrower and you can carefully push the mold open a bit. Make sure you place the jar on a straight surface so that the jar is also straight. If there are air bubbles, you can break them with a lighter or heat tool.
Step 4: Curing
The most boring part of this DIY is waiting for the resin to cure. This epoxy resin takes about 24 hours. Since the lid is so thick, I usually wait a bit longer just to be safe.
Step 5: Remove the pot from the mold
Pull the jar out of the mold. Because the jar is quite big, it is a bit of a challenge. And tadaa, you have a unique, homemade jar! You can really store anything in it, but it also looks great as decoration!
I hope you found this manual useful. I wish everyone lots of crafting fun.
Love, Karin

Beste Doris,
Doris
