LED Lamps for UV Resin
Are you going to work with UV resin and are you curious about how this epoxy hardens? Or are you already familiar with UV resin and are you looking for information about epoxy lamps? After reading this DIY, you will know exactly how to harden UV resin and which lamp is suitable for your project.
It is important that you specifically choose a resin that works with UV radiation.
UV-Resin is a 1-component resin and the only resin type that hardens by means of UV light. A two-component epoxy casting resin cannot harden under a lamp.
Which UV resin lamp do I need?
We have two types of UV resin lamps. In the overview below you will find different types of lamps and what the advantages and disadvantages are of each product.
UV Resin UV lamp 6 watt
The UV resin led lamp 6 watt is suitable for quickly curing small UV Resin projects. This UV lamp has 1 timer of 30 seconds. The lamp has 6 sustainable LED light beads. There is no need to replace a light bulb in the long term. The lamp works via a USB connection (cord included).
The UV lamp 6 watt is super compact. The legs are foldable. This makes this lamp easy to take with you.
- Dimensions folded: 10 x 3.5 x 1.5 cm
- Height of legs 3.5 cm
- Supplied with handy Dutch manual
UV Resin lamp 80 watt
The UV resin LED lamp 80 watt is suitable for quickly curing large UV Resin projects. The lamp is equipped with powerful LED light beads. The nice thing about this lamp is that it consists of two parts. For example, you can place the UV lamp over larger objects or silicone molds, because you can detach the bottom.
If you are going to harden small objects you can leave the lamp as a whole. Supplied with an adapter. The difference with the 6 watt UV lamp is that it has multiple timer settings: 10 – 30 – 60 seconds. The lamp also has the 99 second 'low heat mode' function.
- Dimensions: 23 x 20 x 10.5 cm
Why use a UV resin lamp?
Faster curing of epoxy
The curing process of UV resin accelerates considerably when you use a good quality UV lamp. In just a few minutes the UV resin is already hard. Our UV resin jewelry resin dries in direct sunlight within 5-10 minutes and on a cloudy day: 30-45 minutes. The advantage of a UV lamp is that your resin art projects will be ready faster, it is also very nice if you often work in multiple layers or are just impatient. So you no longer have to wait and you can work quickly!
Less chance of air bubbles
During the curing process of UV resin, air bubbles can form. This can affect the clarity and texture of your resin art piece. Using a UV lamp can help reduce air bubbles by heating the resin quickly and evenly. This allows air bubbles to rise to the surface more quickly before the resin fully cures.
Please note: Alcohol sprays against air bubbles such as the Bubble blaster and UV blockers do not work with UV resin. If you use these products in combination with UV resin, it will not (fully) harden.
Instructions for use UV epoxy lamp
Place the silicone mold on a flat, stable surface before you begin. This ensures that the resin can harden evenly later. When using UV Resin, a few minutes of light from the lamps below is enough to harden a layer.
How long should UV resin be under a UV lamp?
The time resin needs to fully cure under a UV lamp can depend on several factors. This mainly has to do with the thickness of the layers of UV resin and how many watts the lamp you are using has.
For a thin layer of resin, 30 seconds under a UV lamp is usually enough to harden it. Did you fill a large silicone mold or apply the UV Resin to a large surface? Then definitely expose it for a few minutes.
NB:
To ensure complete curing it is important to cure all sides of the UV Resin. Turn the silicone mold or object over and cure the bottom 3-4 times as well.
